| Cat's whiskers are one of the ways a cat senses the world. The whiskers help a cat to feel his way through the world, by detecting the slightest movements in air currents. We don't think about it much, but even walking though a room and passing a piece of furniture creates a change in the air current flow around the room. Kitty's whiskers primary function though is to also help him detect the edges of openings and whether he'll fit in that tiny space or not. The whiskers will always be roughly the same width of the cat's body and if the whiskers clear an opening, so will the rest of the cat. Have you noticed that your cat also has whiskers on their legs as well as their face? Whiskers should never, ever be cut or trimmed. Whiskers do continually grow and fall out, like hair. You'll occasionally find one lying on the carpet. It's perfectly normal for this to happen. |
