Cattle Vaccination Program

There are many vaccines on the market.  They may be obtained from your veterinarian vet supply company or purchased over the counter.  Because you more-than-likely will not received personalized service or a knowledgeable salesperson your best choice is to work with a professional.  At Pet Supplies 4 Less not only are our salespeople and customers service representatives well-versed with product but we also offer a full-time on-staff veterinarian and licensed pharmacist to answer any questions you may have.  The chart below illustrates different diseases their symptoms/diagnoses and prevention/vaccines.

Clostridium
(Blackleg 7-Way)

Sudden death with swelling in rear parts of animal.

Vaccination at 2-6 months with two vaccinations 2-6 weeks apart; burn or bury carcasses.  Annual booster.
We recommend the use of 20/20 Vision 7.

Vibriosis
(Campylobacter)

Blood tests; abortions in early pregnancy; several services per conception; irregular heat periods.

Use A.I. vaccination yearly if a problem (used mostly with natural service).  At Pet Supplies 4 Less we recommend PregGuard 9.

Leptospirosis

Blood tests; abortions any time; high fever poor appetite; blood urine anemia ropy milk.

Vaccination at 4-6 and 12-16 months plus yearly booster.  Keep infected cattle from other animals.  Vira Shield 6+L5 is a successful vaccine.

Brucellosis

Blood or milk tests; abortions in last third of pregnancy retained afterbirth; several services per conception.

Calfhood vaccination at 4-12 months; (4-8 months preferred).

Bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) or shipping fever (Pasteurella Mannheimia or Haemophilus somnus)

Blood tests; respiratory disease high fever nasal discharge coughing rough hair coat if severe.

Vaccination at 3-6 and 12-16 months yearly and before severe stress periods.  One vaccine to try is TSV-20.

Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR)

Blood tests respiratory disease high fever nasal discharge off-feed pneumonia or coughing pus pockets in the vagina; severe abortions or repeat breeders.

Vaccination at 4-6 and 12-16 months plus yearly.  In severe cases it may be given at 1-2 months and an effective vaccine is PregGuard.

Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD)

Blood tests; severe diarrhea abortions high fever coughing.

Vaccination at 4-6 and 12-16 months plus yearly boosters. We recommend CattleMaster Gold.

Parainfluenza-3

Blood tests; similar to shipping fever death in young calves; abortions.

Vaccination at 4-6 and 12-16 months with CattleMaster 4.

Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV)

Blood tests; respiratory disease primarily in heifers.

Vaccination at 4-6 and 12-16 months plus yearly boosters.  We recommend the use of Bovi-Shield 4.
