Your horse can be susceptible to different diseases and infections.  The following are some measures you can take to prevent these things from happening to your beloved horse by keeping the stall clean and in good shape.

Keeping the stall clean is essential
To help prevent your horse from getting any infections you must keep his stall clean and make sure there are no foreign objects that can possibly hurt him. Most infections arise from hoof injuries resulting from a puncture wound in his hoof. If you do feel your horse has an infection you should first soak his hoof in Epson salt which will help to take away some of the infection and swelling. If you are soaking his hoof and you still do not feel that the infection is getting any better the next best thing is to call your vet and have him come check your horse for you.

Fly control
Fly control is another health issue that you should be careful to avoid with your horse as flies are disease and parasite carriers. This is yet another reason to keep your stall as clean as possible. If the stall is clean then the flies will have nothing to come and visit. If you do not board the horse on your own property be sure to check up on your horse frequently so you can see the condition of the stables.

Repellants can greatly help you decrease flies however be careful as some horses may have allergies to some of the ingredients. If available try to use an all-natural approach.

You should keep a first aid kit available at all times in the stall. The kit should contain such items as bandages to cover wounds medication to prevent the infection of minor wounds and punctures a hoof-pick thermometer and tape.
