| The hottest days of summer are uncomfortable for everyone, your cat included. Help your kitty beat the heat and other summer considerations with this summertime tips. If your cat is outdoor only, make sure there are some shady spots, not on hot concrete, for her to relax in during the hottest part of the day. If at all possible, let your cat stay inside in the air conditioning. If you don't have AC, be sure that there are enough fans for people and cats alike. Stay ahead of the summer pests, with flea and tick preventative. If your cat is an outdoor beastie, be sure to use a waterproof product. Cats will drink more water in the summer, just like people. Some cats are very finicky about the temperature of their water, so keep an eye on the water bowl and be sure it's always fresh. If your cat prefers cool water, try adding a few ice cubes through out the day. You may want to consider a self watering fountain for really fussy cats who prefer fresh water. Have a hairball treatment on hand. You'll probably notice an increase in shedding during the summer, which usually means more hairballs too. There are several types of hairball treatments, and once you find the perfect one for your cat, the cat will look forward to its "treat". |
