Your kitten or puppy might think that
everything in your house is a toy; however, there are some things that
are dangerous for your pet. This doesn’t mean that your pet can’t
have any toys, but that your pet should be monitored when playing.
The major household items that you want your pet to avoid include:
- String, ribbon, yard, etc.
- Rubber bands
- Small children’s toys – ones with glass eyes and small
parts
- Pantyhose, underwear and socks – and any other clothing that
is easily chewed on
- Sticks or bones that easily splinter
- Rocks
- Plastic bags
- Sharp objects, such as broken glass & cans (food or pop cans)
- Plastic water bottles
- Stuffed toys, including dog toys – they can swallow the stuffing
- Tin foil
- Paper clips
- Pins, needles, nails, etc.
When giving your pet a toy, make sure that it is the proper size and
type for your pet.
If the toy is too small or too large, it can be swallowed and either
end up lodged in your pet’s throat or intestines. And always supervise
your pet while he is playing with any kind of toy.
Toys that are safe for pets include:
Always inspect your pet’s toys before playtime to check for any
wear and tear or loose parts. If your pet’s toy is worn, toss it
and replace it with a new one. You can also rotate your pet’s toys
weekly so they always have something new to play with.
