Enrolling your dog or puppy into obedience training is vital for a successful dog/owner relationship. Although obedience training does not solve all behavior problems, it provides the tools necessary to deal with problems as they may arise in the future. The training in essence begins to open up the lines of communicate between owner and dog. Successful communication between dog and owner is not meant to give the owner oppressive control over the dog but teach the dog acceptable social behavior. A domesticated dog that is left to his baser animal instincts can and will not only destroy your property but run amok through the neighborhood, bark excessively at neighbors and even bite you. Through proper obedience training that same dog will learn to respect your property, stay in specified areas and bark only when provoked.
Obedience training is an effective means of establishing social hierarchy. By obeying such requests as "come, here and sit," the dog is showing submission and respect for you.
