Meloxicam Tablets

For dogs and cats

Meloxicam is an FDA-approved (in the USA) generic that is equivalent to Metacam®. Meloxicam has fewer side effects than other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen. Meloxicam is used for the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis in adult dogs.

Available in 7.5mg and 15 mg strengths, 100 ct.

Meloxicam is only available with a valid veterinarian prescription.

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that binds to COX-2 receptors. It inhibits cyclooxygenase, phospholipase A2, and prostaglandin synthesis. It is not COX-2 specific, but COX-2 preferential. It exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic activity.

Avoid using other NSAIDS or products that contain aspirin, prednisone, meloxicam, ace inhibitors, anticoagulants, digoxin, and fluconazole. When switching NSAIDS, you should allow a 5-7 day washout period.

Do not give meloxicam to patients with a history of hypersensitivity to meloxicam or other NSAIDS. Safe use has not been proven in dogs less than six months of age. Avoid use if pet has an active bleed, ulcer, or history of ulcers.

Meloxicam has been proven overall relatively safe. The most common side effects are GI upset/distress including vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. Rare, but possible, side effects are bleeding/ulcers, elevated liver enzymes, pruritus, renal failure and azotemia.
