Fidoquel™ CA-1 (Phenobarbital Tablets) is a veterinarian-prescribed medication for dogs 6 months and older, used to control seizures associated with idiopathic epilepsy. It may be used alone or alongside other medications to reduce the frequency and severity of seizures. Additionally, it can be used short-term to help calm dogs or aid sleep during periods of anxiety.

How Fidoquel Works:

Fidoquel enhances the effects of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), the brain's main inhibitory neurotransmitter, calming excessive electrical activity in the brain that triggers seizures. This raises the brain’s seizure threshold, helping your dog maintain better control over episodes.

Dosage & Administration:

• Dogs: Typically 1–2 mg per pound orally every 12 hours
• Do not stop suddenly—abrupt discontinuation can trigger seizures
• Follow your veterinarian’s instructions precisely for safe and effective use

Important Safety Information:

• Contains phenobarbital, a Schedule IV controlled substance—risk of misuse, dependence, and CNS depression
• Not for use in pregnant or lactating dogs
• May interact with other medications—always inform your veterinarian of all drugs your dog is taking
• Monitor for side effects such as lethargy, increased appetite, excessive urination, vomiting, ataxia, and weight gain

Precautions:

Overdose & Missed Dose:

If a dose is missed, give it as soon as possible unless the next dose is imminent—never double doses. Seek immediate veterinary care for suspected overdoses, as phenobarbital overdose can be fatal.

Storage:

Store in the original container at 25°C (77°F), with allowable excursions between 15°–30°C (59°–86°F). Protect from light and moisture. Keep securely locked and out of reach of children, cats, and other pets.
