Rx Trazodone is a prescription medication commonly used by veterinarians to help manage anxiety, fear, and stress-related behaviors in dogs and cats. As a serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor (SARI), it works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain to promote a calmer, more relaxed state. Trazodone is often prescribed for situational anxiety, including thunderstorms, fireworks, travel, veterinary visits, grooming appointments, separation anxiety, and periods of restricted activity following surgery or injury.

Trazodone may be used alone or as part of a comprehensive behavior modification plan and, in some cases, may be combined with other anti-anxiety medications as directed by your veterinarian.
